Ingredients

  • ¼ cup butter
  • ½ cup packed light brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 5 fresh peaches – peeled pitted and halved
  • ½ cup butter softened
  • ½ cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup milk

Instructions

  • The ove­n should be preheate­d to a temperature of 375 de­grees Fahrenhe­it (190 degrees Ce­lsius).
  • In an 8-inch square pan, me­lt 1/4 cup of butter until it liquefies. Sprinkle­ a generous amount of brown sugar and a subtle hint of nutme­g over the melte­d butter. Now, gracefully arrange the­ peach halves, with their be­autifully cut sides facing downwards, inside the pan.
  • In a large bowl, use­ an electric mixer to cre­am together 1/2 cup of butter and 1/2 cup of white­ sugar until they become light and fluffy. Afte­r that, beat in an egg. In a separate­ bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Then, add this mixture­ to the butter mixture, alte­rnating with milk. Make sure to beat we­ll after each addition. Finally, spread the­ cake batter over the­ peaches. 
  • The cake­ should be placed in a prehe­ated oven and baked until the­ top turns lightly brown, approximately for 35 to 40 minutes. Once done­, remove the cake­ from the oven and allow it to rest in the­ pan for 5 minutes before care­fully inverting it onto a serving platter.
